459 posts · Joined 2005. #26 · Aug 8, 2014. While I didn't stop a grizzly charge I carried my 18.5" barreled Marlin 1895GS in 45-70 loaded with 525gr @ 1600fps when I went into the thick bush after my grizzly. I shot it with my 26" barreled 375RUM loaded with 300gr Partitions @ 2775fps.

In .375 they are all too long: the 38-55 Winchester, 375 Winchester. In 44-caliber there is the weak 44-40 Winchester that doesn’t put out even 700 f-p of energy at the muzzle!
